Design and provide manufacturing drawings for a bicycle front chainset.

Design and provide manufacturing drawings for a bicycle front chainset.
The assignment has been submitted online on blackboard within deadline as a PDF (no other format acceptable) (if fail, automatic zero to entire assignment *).
Pass/fail
1
Format drawing:
Score between 0-6 depending on overall adhesion to standards & requirements:
a) 3 sheets in total: Front and side views of the crank; single front view of the chain ring & two views of
bolt; front, side and isometric views of assembly. Hidden lines are shown as required
b) The drawings have a physical format A3, following BSI (or ISO) A3 formatting. The page has a complete
border on all four sides of the page with the student number, student name, title, and scales all correct
and written within the boxes.
c) Correct orthographic projections, Third angle view, with views aligned and correct projection symbol
(downloadable from blackboard)

2
Line formats:
Score between 0-6 depending on overall adhesion to standards & requirements:
a) Visible edges are clearly distinguishable (thicker) from other types of line. Visible edges printed with thick
continuous line (recommended 0.35 mm)
b) Hidden lines are shown and represented with thin dash pattern for the complete length.
c) Centre lines are correctly located marking cylindrical features and represented as thin dash-dot pattern.
Centre lines extend a short distance from the feature they are marking. Centre lines do NOT extend
between views. Centre lines are NOT used for dimensions.
d) Centre marks are correctly located marking circles. They are thin crosses with extended lines as thin dash-
dot (hint: for small circles, display attribute mark size=1 mm)
e) No line touches the border line around the four sides of the page. If lines of different type overlap: visible
line >(“wins” over) hidden > centre line > dimension line

3
Dimensions
Score between 0-6 depending on overall adhesion to standards & requirements, such as:
a) Fully dimensioned: no missing or over dimensions
b) Dimension lines are thin, have an arrow that is visible, and visible numbers centred above or to the outer
side of the line. There is a visible gap between the number and the line they are above, numbers are not
over the arrows. Numbers are not in contact with any lines whatsoever.
c) Dimension lines are placed nearby measured object, but outside it and aligned where possible. (BS308)

4
Crank
Score between 0-6 depending on overall adhesion to standards & requirements
a) Sensible design ( ease of manufacture, no “weak” spots, originality & simplicity of design)
b) Adequate filleting or chamfers
c) Front and side view of crank.
d) Correctly dimensioned (fully dimensioned, component can be manufactured)
e) Threaded holes for bolts correctly dimensioned as per BS308 including PCD.
f) Threaded hole for pedal correctly defined
g) Correctly defined Shimano square taper fixing
Out of 6
5
Chain ring:
Score between 0-6 depending on overall adhesion to standards & requirements:
a) Sensible design ( ease of manufacture, no “weak” spots, originality & simplicity of design )
b) Correctly dimensioned (fully dimensioned, component can be manufactured)
c) Correct pitch diameter for number of teeth.
d) Chain ring bolt holes correctly dimensioned including PCD.
e) Detail view of one tooth with dimensions. Large scale
Out of 6
6
Bolt
Score between 0-3 depending on overall adhesion on standards & requirements:
a) Correctly dimensioned (fully dimensioned, correct format, in line with specifications)
b) Thread shown as per BS308.
c) Hex hole sensible depth and dimensioned
Out of 3
7
Assembly
Score between 0-3 depending on overall adhesion on standards & requirements:
a) Assembly drawing, front, side, isometric views
b) Bill of materials
c) No dimensions
